Shri Sunil Shastri tied his life knot with Smt. Meera Shastri of Jaipur on 28th May 1973 and has three sons Vinamra, Vaibhav, & Vibhore named after the three notable qualities of Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri. |
|
Completed Schooling from St. Columbus, New Delhi and graduated from Delhi University. Also attended several courses in various disciplines like Bank Management, Public Relations, Advertising and Journalism. |
|
Served 14 years in Bank of India in the management cadre. |
Public Life |
|
|
Decided to quit bank service and join active politics in 1980. Got elected to U.P Assembly from Gorakhpur Constituency in June 1980 and subsequently got re-elected from the same constituency in March 1985. |
|
Took over as Dy. Minister of Energy, General Administration & Public Enterprises in Uttar Paradesh on 4th December 1980. Subsequently, he was elevated as Minister of State Energy (Independent Charge) on 1st October 1981. |
|
Was entrusted with the responsibilities of Dept. of Labour, Training & Employment (Independent Charge) on 19th July 1982. Later the portfolio of Dept. of Technical Education (Independent Charge) was also entrusted on 9th Feburary 1983. Brings Down the Strikes & Lock outs resulting in less mandays loss in unprecedented manner. |

Sunil Shastri was sworn in as Cabinet Minister for Energy on 13th March 1985. He resigned form the Cabinet on 20th July 1987. During his tenure as Power Minister, U.P, he contributed effectively towards improving the Plant Load Factor of the State around the National average. |

Sunil Shastri was a Congress candidate from the Allahabad Parliamentary Constituency in 1988 against Shri V.P.Singh, Former Prime Minister of India & Shri Kanshi Ram, President Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP). |
|
He was re-inducted as Cabinet Minister for Heavy Industries, Industrial Finance & Public Enterprises in Uttar Pradesh in 1989. |
|
In September 1990 he was appointed as Chairman, Minimum Wages Advisory Board, Ministry of Labour, Govt. of India for a period of 3 years. |
|
The Congress President nominated him as Joint Secretary of All India Congress Committee in April 1995. He was entrusted with the responsibility of party affairs in Gujarat, Daman & Diu, Dadra & Nagar Haveli, West Bengal, Orissa, Assam and Kerala. |
|
In January 1998 Sunil Shastri joined Bhartiya Janata party (BJP) in the National Interest under the stewardship of Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee and Shri Lal Krishna Advani. Sunil Shastri was given responsibility by the party to campaign extensively for the Lok Sabha Elections in Delhi, Rajasthan, J&K, West Bengal, Orissa, Assam and Kerala. |

In May 1998 Shri Sunil Shastri was nominated as a Member (Special Invitee) to the National Executive of BJP. |
|
15th October 1999 was the day when he was nominated as Member of Second National Commission on Labour, Government of India. |
|
On 11th September 2000 Sunil Shastri was appointed National General Secretary of BJP, incharge of Assam State. |
|
On 6th June 2001 Sunil Shastri became the incharge of Media, Publicity, Publications and Parliamentary Coordination. He was party Spokesperson also. |
|
On 8th December 2004, Sunil Shastri resigned from the primary membership of BJP. |
|
10th December 2004 was the day when Sunil Shastri was unanimously elected as a President of Jai Jawan Jai Kisan Mazdoor Congress, a registered political party with the Election Commission of India. |
Social Life |

Shri Sunil Shastri has been actively, contributing to the cause of organizing Labour Force from different walks of life as President Jai Mazdoor Forum having its affiliation from all over India. |
|
Shri Sunil Shastri has been contributing to philanthropic, social and academic pursuits through its association with following bodies also. |

He initiated the movement towards True Democracy through Lal Bahadur Shastri Memorial Foundation in active association with over hundred NGO’s and held All India Seminars with the active participation of eminent Politicians, Jurists, Bureaucrats, Educationalists, Social Reformers, and Economists. |

A regular contributor to various magazines & newspapers on National Issues. |
|
|
Shri Shastri is also a creative poet with special interest in composition of music. |
|
|
He has written in individual capacity for children and also on various socio-economic issues. His book “Lal Bahadur Shastri – Mere Babuji” in Hindi received wide acclaim. This book is in the process of being translated into Tamil, Bangla & Marathi languages. He also compiled and edited “Sradhanjali” a souvenir on Shastri Ji detailing various aspects of his life and other souvenir on Socio Economic Changes in India. |

Visited Japan, Philippines, Thailand, Malaysia, Hongkong and Singapore in 1985 to study the Modern Power Generation, Distribution and Transmission system. |
